Adjusting the hip width of a shirt

You already own a LE CHEMISEUR® shirt and want to adjust the hip width? This page is for you.

Best practice for the hip width

The hip is the full width of the shirt in the lowest part, edge to edge. You should be able to close the last button comfortably even when seated.

LE CHEMISEUR® tips

😎 Wearing the shirt untucked with a thick belt

Add + 1 to 2 cm at the hips. If the gap between waist and hips exceeds 5–6 cm, also add + 1 cm to the waist taper a straighter cut, otherwise it will be too much shaped like an hourglass.

🍑 Wide hips or prominent seat

Do not hesitate to add + 2 to 3 cm. If the difference between waist taper and hips exceeds 5–6 cm, also slightly increase the waist.

🔀 Adjusting hips and back length together

If you shorten the back length, the hips will sit higher and can usually be reduced. Conversely, if you lengthen the back, the hips sit lower and often need to be widened.

How to measure the hip width on a shirt

Button the shirt, lay it flat, and measure the distance from one edge to the other at the very bottom without stopping at the seams.
