Taking shrinkage after washing into account

Shrinkage after washing is already taken into account by our AI

Even premium fabrics naturally shrink slightly after washing. Our AI automatically accounts for this during production, which is why your shirt may feel slightly larger before the first washes.

Before making any adjustment, we recommend washing your shirt 2-3 times. Most shrinkage occurs during the first washes, after which the garment will gradually stabilize close to the measurements of your Fit Key, within a production tolerance of ±1 cm.

Shrinkage of shirts

Classic business shirts and French poplin fabrics generally shrink by:

  • about 1 cm in sleeve and back length,
  • and about 0.5 cm on the collar, chest, waist and hips.

More casual fabrics such as oxford, flannel, corduroy and linen may shrink slightly more, sometimes up to 2 cm.

Shrinkage of trousers

Cotton trousers (including chinos and 5-pocket trousers) generally shrink:

  • about 1.5 cm in inseam length,
  • and about 0.5 cm at the waistband.

Other measurements usually remain unchanged.

Thanks to their premium construction and reinforced interlinings, LE CHEMISEUR® trousers maintain their shape very well over time.

Wool trousers

Wool trousers - including Performance wool-blend trousers - generally do not shrink when properly cared for.

We recommend:

  • a delicate machine cycle for wool-blend trousers,
  • and preferably professional dry cleaning for 100% merino wool trousers (VBC).

Never tumble-dry wool trousers.
