Adjusting the armhole of a shirt

You already own a LE CHEMISEUR® shirt and want to adjust the armhole height? This page is for you.

Best practice

The armhole height is the distance of the opening between the sleeves and the body of the shirt. It must allow good freedom of movement while limiting excess fabric.

LE CHEMISEUR® tips

Adjusting armhole height will also affect the width of the upper sleeve in the biceps area.

🕺 Keep freedom of movement

The fabric excess at the bottom of the armhole, at the back, is essential for raising the arms.

🥵 You favour comfort and get warm easily

Add + 1 cm. A slightly larger armhole lets more air circulate and prevents the fabric from sticking to the skin when you sweat.

😎 You favour style and like slim sleeves

Remove 1 cm.

🔃 You have high or sloping shoulders

Improve the shirt’s placement by removing 1 cm (high shoulders) or adding 1 cm (sloping shoulders).

How to measure the armhole on a shirt

Pull the fabric slightly at top and bottom so that the seam is straight. Measure the full width of the armhole without stopping at the seam.
