Adjusting trouser inseam length

You already own LE CHEMISEUR® trousers and would like to adjust the inseam length? This page is for you.

Best practice

Extended inseam – formalMid inseam – smart casualShort inseam – casual
The trousers break on the shoe at the front. This length is ideal for formal trousers and helps shorter builds gain visual length. The trousers end just above the shoe or barely touch it (depending on the footwear). This length is a good choice for most uses. The trousers end 2 – 3 cm above the shoe, showing off your socks. Shorter length helps taller builds visually reduce leg length.

The LE CHEMISEUR® AI compensates for shrinkage of cotton trousers, adding about 1 cm to the inseam on chinos and 5-pocket trousers. Wash them 2 – 3 times before you re-order, or simply leave a little extra length. Wool trousers, including performance wool-blend trousers, do not shrink.

LE CHEMISEUR® tips

⚠️ Wear the trousers at the right height

If you check the inseam length of your trousers, be sure to position the waistband at the right height on your body.

🥾 Put on your shoes

Try your trousers with the shoes you wear most. Purists have trousers with different trouser lengths for low shoes and boots, but you can also opt for an intermediate length.

How to measure inseam on trousers

Inseam on a chino or 5-pocket

Choose trousers that fit you well (or fold the hem to the desired length) and measure along the seam from the crotch to the hem.

Inseam on formal wool trousers

On premium dress trousers (such as LE CHEMISEUR®), there are two seams at the crotch; follow the one toward the front of the trousers.
