The Ideal Chest Width

Are you creating your first LE CHEMISEUR® shirt with our AI sizing system and would like to adjust the chest width (half-chest circumference)? This page is for you.

Best practice for the chest width

The chest width corresponds to half the chest circumference measured on the shirt (not on your body). It is one of the most important measurements, as it determines the overall drape and balance of the shirt. The shirt should follow the shape of your torso without excessive fabric, while still allowing comfortable movement. As a rule of thumb, you should be able to pinch approximately 3 cm of fabric on each side of the chest. This provides the right balance between comfort and a clean silhouette.

Trust the AI

The LE CHEMISEUR® AI combines years of expertise with data from more than 50,000 customers.

For the vast majority of men, it provides an excellent chest width recommendation. And remember: your first order is covered by our 100-Day Fit Guarantee.

📏 You prefer an extra-slim fit

For a more body-skimming silhouette, you may reduce the chest width by 1 cm.

We also recommend reducing the waist measurement by 1 cm to maintain balanced proportions.

Keep in mind that this will slightly reduce freedom of movement.

🥵 You tend to get warm easily

If you prioritise comfort or tend to feel warm, consider adding 1 to 2 cm to the chest width.

The additional ease improves airflow and freedom of movement while maintaining an elegant fit.

Measuring the Chest Width on a Shirt You Already Own

Button the shirt, lay it flat, and measure the distance from one edge to the other just below the sleeves. Measure the full width without stopping at the seam.

If you want to compare with a shirt you already own, make sure to choose a non-stretch shirt.
