What is the right armhole for a shirt?

The armhole is the height of the opening between the sleeves and the body of the shirt. It should provide good freedom of movement while limiting excess fabric.

The excess fabric at the bottom of the armhole, at the back, is essential for raising your arms.

🥵 You prioritize comfort and tend to sweat easily

Add +1 cm. A slightly wider armhole allows for better ventilation and prevents the fabric from sticking to your skin when you sweat.

😎 You prioritize style and like slim sleeves

Remove 1 cm.

🔃 You have high or sloping shoulders

You can improve the shirt's fit by removing 1 cm (high shoulders) or adding 1 cm (sloping shoulders).

Adjusting the armhole height will also affect the width of the upper sleeve in the bicep area.

How to measure the armhole of a shirt?

Gently pull the fabric up and down to straighten the seam. Measure the entire width of the armhole without stopping at the seam.
